We are Grateful This Thanksgiving Day
What is the American Thanksgiving Holiday all about? Is it just a four-day weekend for overeating and overindulging in sporting events? Or is there more to this peculiarly American Holiday?
I suggest there is much more to it than just food and football. It is a time to consider all that we have, however small or large it may be, with a humble and grateful heart. It is a time to express that gratitude in thought, word, and deed. It is a time to share with those you love and those who love you.
And so, in that spirit I share a short poem of gratitude written by me and a touching song, "Thanksgiving Prayer", which was written by Josef Anderson and performed by one of my favorite country singers, Johnny Cash.

We are Grateful for Friends
We are Grateful for the Rule of Law
We are Grateful for the Mercy of God
We are Grateful for Liberty of Association
We are Grateful for Struggles that make us Stronger
We are Grateful for Another Sunrise and Another Sunset
We are Grateful for Life, Good Health, and Good Neighbors
We are Grateful for Strong Men who make Living Life Possible
We are Grateful for the Capacity to Help those who have Less than we
We are Grateful for Giants who went before, Paving the Way for us to Follow
We are Grateful for the Sun, the Moon, and all the Stars in the Heavens
We are Grateful for Loving Women who make Life Worth Living
We are Grateful for People who disagree but Love us anyway
We are Grateful for Responsibility that gives Meaning to Life
We are Grateful for Sunshine, Clouds, Wind, Rain, and Snow
We are Grateful for Music that touches our Heart and Soul
We are Grateful for Babbling Brooks and Old Man River
We are Grateful for Strength to Overcome
We are Grateful for all the Seasons of Life
We are Grateful for Thanksgiving Day
